General information about the Prairieville Fire Department

On the evening February 13, 1970, a group of Homeowners meet to form the Non- Profit Organization of the Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department. Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department was created after the local St John’s Catholic Church fire in 1970. Community leaders saw the need for the growing area to have its own fire department. Throughout the years the Volunteer Fire Department was able to keep up with the call volume, however due to the growth in the area they saw a need for additional funding and resources.  In early 2005 some the original founding members begin a grassroots campaign to seek tax mileages and create our own Fire Protection District for the Prairieville Volunteer Fire Departments response area. Ascension Parish Fire District #3 was created and today provides the funding for 63 fulltime employees covering 28 square miles and a population of 44,268 residents. Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department still provides a vital need for our fundraising and purchasing of needed fire equipment. From our humble beginnings in 1970 with one barn used as the first fire station to 2022 having five modern Fire Stations staffed for around the clock protection of our community.
